PROFILE
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Tarana Begum has worked in academia for close to twenty years. Feminism in Political Thought, Gender and Politics, Project Planning and Evaluation, Governance, and Environmental Issues are just few of the subjects she has taught on. She has served as a reviewer for a number of national and international journals that are both peer-reviewed and open-access.
Tarana received a Master of Science in International Public Administration (IPA) from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan's International Cooperation Policy (IPC) Program in 2012 on a full scholarship from the prestigious Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship Program. She earned a Bachelor of Social Science with honours in 1997 and a Master of Social Science with a thesis in Government and Politics in 1998, both from Jahangirnagar University.
In 2015, Tarana received the RMIT International PhD Scholarship (RIPS) and enrolled in the doctoral programme at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Furthermore, in 2015, she received a final nomination for the Commonwealth PhD Scholarship. She also received Merit Scholarships at both the SSC and HSC levels.
Tarana is currently focusing her efforts on addressing policy issues related to violence against women. She wrote her Master's thesis on the impact of climate change adaptation programmes on women and the prospects for empowering women in Bangladesh through the handloom programme.
